How to use it

  1. Name the company and product. Enter your company and product names so the terms read as your own.
  2. Set the commission. Choose recurring or one-time, then the rate, and the number of months if the commission has a limit.
  3. Set tracking and payout rules. Pick the cookie window, the hold period for refunds, the payout threshold and how often you pay.
  4. Choose prohibited channels. Tick the practices you want to rule out and set the notice period for ending the agreement.
  5. Copy or download. Copy the terms to your clipboard or download them as a text file, then publish them on your program page.

How the terms are built

The document has eleven numbered sections: joining, commission, attribution and cookie window, payouts, refunds and chargebacks, prohibited practices, honest promotion, the independent relationship, term and termination, changes, and general terms. Your answers fill in the numbers and the wording of four of them: the commission sentence in section 2, the window in section 3, the payout and hold rules in sections 4 and 5, and the prohibited list in section 6.

The hold period does two jobs. It delays when commission becomes payable, and it sets how long a refund or chargeback can cancel commission that was already paid. Using one number for both keeps the terms easy to explain and easy to run. Attribution follows the most recent click inside the window, and customers who already paid you before the click are excluded. Edit anything you disagree with after you paste it; the output is plain text on purpose.

Questions, answered

What should an affiliate agreement include?

At minimum: who the parties are, how commission is calculated, how a referral is attributed, when and how you pay, what happens on refunds, which promotion methods are banned, and how either side ends the agreement. The builder includes all of these as numbered sections.

How long should the cookie window be?

There is no standard that fits every product. Match it to how long your buyers take to decide: a self-serve tool bought within days can use a short window, while a product with a long evaluation needs more time. The builder defaults to 30 days and you can set any number.

Why have a hold period before commission is payable?

Refunds and chargebacks arrive after the payment. If you wait for that window to pass before commission becomes payable, you avoid paying affiliates for revenue you then give back. The same number is used as the clawback window in the generated terms.

Do affiliates have to disclose that they earn commission?

The generated terms require affiliates to say clearly that they earn commission and to follow the advertising rules where they publish. Those rules differ by country, so check the ones that apply to your affiliates.

Can I use the output as it is?

Yes. It is written to be used as is: edit any wording you disagree with and have your own counsel review it before you publish, especially for a regulated product or affiliates in many countries.

Is anything saved or uploaded?

No. The document is built in your browser from what you type. Nothing is stored or sent.

Terms are only half of a program

Ambassly applies the cookie window, hold period and clawbacks you wrote down, tracks every referral through Stripe, and keeps an audit trail of each commission decision. Create the program, paste your terms and invite your first affiliates.
